Hi, everyone! I'll be moving to Boulder for grad school in the Fall, and I'm wondering if any of you here have, or know someone who has, ferrets and is also a renter. I have called countless property management places today to inquire about their ferret-friendliness, and everyone has said "no." I'm starting to get a little concerned, so I figured I'd ask for advice here. Thanks in advance for any help!

My niece is a property manager and is generally pet friendly, although I don't know about ferrets.

Thanks a lot-- I think we're going to contact her about some of the available places!

I've had several friends with ferrets. The primary concern for renters and property management companies is the smell. Even with the sac removed, the scent of ferrets can linger and devalue a property (especially when the company doesn't want to pay for a serious cleaning). For the most part, I think this is an overreaction.

I recommend you get in contact with a couple of the property management companies in town or with Housing Helpers (a free resource with actual people to help you). They'll be able to let you know about animal deposits, allowances, and where you'd best be able to find a place.

Thanks a lot. We have always steam cleaned prior to moving out, but Florida apartments seem way more open to exotic pets than some states, so I guess I was a bit surprised that so many people were like "nope" *click*. I'm going to contact Housing Helpers tomorrow, as most property management places thus far have been pretty firm in their "no's."

Leigh's currently interning out of state, so I'm not sure how quickly you'll get a response. Last I heard, Leigh was sharing a house with a roommate and about 35235723857 assorted pets, mostly reptilian plus ferrets and cat(s?). Mind, I'm not totally sure the landlord knows exactly how many pets there are....

I don't live in Boulder and am resisting ferrets and snakes until I'm more settled, so I'm afraid I can't be terribly helpful.
